Extraction-lite philosophy
Confiction Labs calls RIFTSTORM extraction-lite to distinguish it from hardcore PvP extraction titles:
- Successful extracts keep weapons and resources you secured in the mission.
- Failed extracts apply Weapon Scarring—negative modifiers on weapons you brought in—not a full inventory delete.
- Tension still comes from deciding how deep to push before extracting, especially in Rift Exposure Zones.
Chief Creative Officer Igor Tanzil framed the goal: capture extraction tension in a co-op PvE power fantasy without mistakes that “ruin a player’s day.” That ethos should guide your risk tolerance when bringing flagship Forge Center crafts into high Threat missions.
What Early Access explicitly includes
Steam’s “What will be available during Early Access” section lists:
- Five playable Weavers with distinct kits
- Onboarding campaign teaching core systems
- Curated and procedurally generated missions at Threat Levels 1 and 2
- Threat 3+ available for players wanting experimental, less tightly balanced challenges
- Online co-op via Lobby and Code invites
- Lythograms as a major in-mission build vector (balance continuing to evolve)
- Initial work-in-progress Periapt Augment system
Higher Threat tuning, progression balance, enemy balance, and supporting systems are works in progress. Bugs, balance problems, major system changes, and progression resets may occur—standard Early Access caveats.
Expected Early Access duration
Steam asks “Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?” Developers answer:
We currently expect RIFTSTORM to be in Early Access for approximately 18 to 24 months. This estimate may change over time as player enjoyment, feedback, technical stability, and the quality of the complete experience are our top priority.
Translation for players: plan for two years of evolving metas, economy passes, and content drops—not a short beta.
Roadmap themes after launch
Official communications highlight Early Access focus areas:
- Tuning compounding combat systems — Lythograms, weapons, enemy telegraphs, co-op scaling.
- Expanding roster — Additional Weavers beyond launch five.
- Armory Update — Named post-launch content beat adding weapons and related systems.
- More enemies and missions — PADDOCK arc grows; procedural tables expand.
- Longer-term progression — Deeper Periapt and account milestones.
Exact patch order will follow player feedback—watch Steam news and developer blogs after August 11, 2026.
Who Early Access is for
Good fit:
- Squads wanting nightly three-player co-op with friends
- Players comfortable with Threat Level rebalancing
- Looter fans who enjoy salvage loops and blueprint chasing
- Demo alumni ready for persistent Forge Center progression
Poor fit:
- Offline-only players (game is always online)
- Solo players who dislike connection dependency
- Buyers expecting a finished story campaign at launch
- Players allergic to progression resets during major patches
Demo relationship
The Steam demo predates EA with four curated missions—not the full PADDOCK chain. Use demo to validate fun; use Early Access for account progression. See Demo Missions for operation breakdown.
