Lythograms in RIFTSTORM

Choose in-mission power spikes that define each run—temporary upgrades separate from Periapt meta progression.

Lythograms Guide

Lythograms are RIFTSTORM’s in-mission upgrade system—the choices you make mid-run that spike power for the current session only. When your squad clears certain objectives, interacts with rift-touched nodes, or hits progression beats inside a PADDOCK Contingency mission, the game presents Lythogram options: usually two or three upgrades tailored to your Weaver or team. Pick one, feel the immediate effect, and keep fighting toward extract. Nothing from a Lythogram persists after you leave the zone unless converted indirectly through loot you successfully extract.

Confusion between Lythograms and Periapt is common pre-launch. Periapt is hub-side meta progression that survives every outcome. Lythograms are run-local accelerators—powerful, but gone when the mission ends. Early Access is planned for August 11, 2026 on Steam, and learning when to take damage Lythograms versus survival or utility options will define how quickly your trio clears higher Threat Levels.

When Lythogram choices appear

Exact triggers may be tuned during Early Access, but preview materials and demo play show Lythograms arriving at predictable beats:

  • Objective milestones — Completing a wave defense, hacking a rift anchor, or securing a relay.
  • Shrines or interactables — Optional map points in Rift Exposure Zones that trade time for upgrade opportunities.
  • Elite defeats — Killing named or rift-mutated enemies sometimes opens a team-wide pick.

Because choices often pause combat briefly, call “Lythogram up” on voice so teammates do not wander into new aggro while reading options.

Types of Lythogram upgrades

Categories overlap by Weaver, but most offerings fall into these buckets:

Offensive — Bonus weapon damage, crit chance, elemental proc rates, or ability cooldown reduction on damage skills. Starling and Caracal players gravitate here when the squad plans to speed-clear.

Defensive — Shields, damage reduction, overheal buffers, or revive speed. Rook mains and groups learning new zones should weight defensive Lythograms until extract routes are memorized.

Utility — Movement speed, loot reveal radius, deployable duration, or squad-wide buffs from Hertz and Botsy kits. Utility picks win co-op nights when three-player coordination matters more than personal DPS charts.

Economy — Rare options that improve material drops or extract bag efficiency. Strong when you are farming Forge Center components without pushing max Threat yet.

Some Lythograms may be team votes—everyone gets the same upgrade when the squad selects a shared banner. Others are individual—each Weaver sees options based on their loadout. Confirm which UI you are in before yelling your pick across Discord.

Squad synergy rules

In co-op, selfish Lythogram greed loses missions. Use these guidelines:

  1. First pick of the run: Favor survival or sustain if Threat Level is new to the group.
  2. Mid-run: Stack offense once extract path is mapped and nobody has died recently.
  3. Pre-boss or pre-extract: Defensive or mobility Lythograms beat greedy damage if timers are tight.
  4. Duplicated roles: If two players run similar weapons, split offensive and utility instead of doubling the same buff.

Discuss Lythogram philosophy in lobby the same way you discuss lobby codes—thirty seconds of planning prevents mid-mission arguments.

Lythograms vs Periapt vs Forge gear

LayerWhen it appliesPersists after mission?
LythogramsMid-mission choicesNo
PeriaptHub meta treeYes
Forge Center gearEquipped loadoutYes until lost or scarred

Your baseline power is Periapt plus crafted gear. Lythograms multiply that baseline for fifteen minutes of heroics. Entering a mission under-geared and hoping Lythograms carry you through max Threat is how Weapon Scarring happens—see How to Extract for risk context.

Interaction with Rift Exposure and Threat

Rift Exposure Zones sometimes gate higher-tier Lythogram shrines behind optional detours. The trade is time versus power: a team Lythogram before a exposure spike can trivialize an elite pack; skipping it may save extract margin. Threat Levels raise enemy stats independently of Lythograms—do not assume three offensive picks negate a Threat tier above your Periapt paygrade.

Exposure migrations mid-mission can block return paths to shrines you marked early. Take Lythograms when you are adjacent, not when you plan to backtrack later.

Demo and Early Access tuning

The Steam demo (app 3212570) includes Lythogram-style choices so you can learn UI flow. Numbers and option pools may change before and after the planned August 11, 2026 Early Access launch. Treat demo experience as muscle memory for reading options quickly, not as gospel for min-max paths.

Common mistakes

  • Always picking damage — Speed kills low Threat; high Threat kills careless squads without defensive layers.
  • Ignoring team votes — AFK during shared picks wastes a beat the mission designer assumed you would use.
  • Chasing shrine detours after extract call — Lythogram greed causes failed extracts and scarred weapons.
  • Confusing Lythogram glow with loot rarity — Color language may differ; read text, not only icons.

Advanced: Lythogram pacing for farming

Farm squads optimize missions with known shrine locations and fixed Lythogram orders—offense stack one and two, utility three, defensive before extract. Publish your route in Getting Started notes for statics. Pugs should stay flexible.

When Confiction Labs adds Weavers or mission types post-launch, revisit shrine maps—Lythogram locations often tie to geometry that changes per update.

Lythograms are the spice, not the meal. Build Periapt, craft at the Forge Center, enter with a plan, choose upgrades that serve extract success, and bank loot. Repeat until Threat Levels that once required perfect Lythogram RNG become warm-up runs.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common RIFTSTORM questions.

Do Lythograms carry over after a mission?

No. Lythograms are temporary in-mission upgrades. Persistent power comes from Periapt and Forge Center gear described in Getting Started.

Are Lythogram choices shared in co-op?

Some picks are team-wide votes; others are individual to your Weaver. Call out which UI is active using co-op voice comms.

Should I always pick damage Lythograms?

Not on high Threat Levels or first clears. Defensive and utility picks protect extract timing.

Where do Lythogram shrines spawn?

Often in or near Rift Exposure Zones. Briefing maps and squad knowledge help; locations may shift during Early Access.

Can Lythograms replace Periapt investment?

No. Lythograms spike power for one run. Periapt defines your long-term ceiling and unlocks harder content tiers.
