Loadouts Guide

A RIFTSTORM loadout is the set of weapons and mods you deploy into a mission—weapons at risk of Weapon Scarring if you fail to extract, plus the mid-mission spikes from Lythograms that temporarily reshape power. Early Access launches on the planned August 11, 2026 Steam date with roughly thirty starting weapons, Periapt progression, and Forge Center crafting. This guide maps loadout thinking to each Weaver dossier in Weavers and to trio roles from Trio Comps.

Safe versus gambit slots

Every experienced squad runs two mental categories:

Safe slot: high-investment crafts with mods you cannot afford to scar while learning Threat. Gambit slot: experimental blueprints, elemental swaps, or secondary archetypes you are willing to repair or salvage. Never double-gambit all three players on the same night unless you accept a scar cascade. Pair this split with How to Extract discipline.

Rook loadouts

Rook accepts flexible primaries—mid-range rifles, shotguns, or SMGs depending on map flow. Prioritize stagger-friendly secondaries that complement Protocol-Bolt rather than duplicating AoE grenade roles. Squad Synergy rewards staying near allies; avoid heavy sniper setups that force split positioning unless your static comms well.

Starling loadouts

Starling wants large magazines, crit, and pierce affixes from the Weapon Tier List. Kinetic Screen multiplies allied projectiles—coordinate primary elements with teammates so Going Viral-style synergies are not required but elemental weaknesses still get covered. Safe: stable magazine AR. Gambit: exotic pierce rolls for Sustained Salvo windows.

Hertz loadouts

Hertz scales with health—Stage Dive damage references max HP. Invest Forge mods on health and close-range tools. Safe: shotgun or SMG with damage reduction mods. Gambit: Lythogram-dependent health stacks testing on higher Threat Levels.

Botsy loadouts

Botsy loadouts are elemental loadouts: Going Viral copies your active weapon element to turrets. Swap primaries before Conductive Paint bursts. Trios should split elements across players so one scar does not remove the team’s only shock or burn route. Hideout turrets need personal weapons that still function when constructs expire.

Caracal loadouts

Caracal loadouts should emphasize handling, mobility, and precision until official kit synergies confirm at EA launch. Responsive mid-range primaries and flexible secondaries fit the agile ops fantasy better than slow weapons you cannot reposition under pressure. Safe: dependable rifle with clean mods. Gambit: experimental precision crafts once in-game tooltips clarify Caracal passives. Kit details may evolve during Early Access.

Trio elemental coverage

Before lobby, assign elements in the Squad Composer: frontline neutral, mid elemental flex, backline precision. Team Tier List comps assume coverage exists—double fire mains scar together on failed fire-zone extracts.

Mod priorities at the Forge

Craft at the Forge Center with CP potential and minimum rarity sliders in mind—higher tiers cost more materials. Blueprints from missions beat random crafts for targeted loadouts. Salvage scarred gambit weapons to fund safe slot upgrades.

Periapt alignment

Loadouts without Periapt support underperform: Starling magazines mean little if account nodes buff abilities only. Map Periapt paths before you craft duplicate primaries for each Weaver alt.

Patch readiness

Weapon balance and mod pools will shift during Early Access. Keep one generic safe loadout per player that survives nerfs—often a mid-tier AR with clean mods. Update this page’s archetype advice after Armory Update roadmap content ships.

Pre-deploy loadout checklist

Confirm primary and secondary elements differ across the trio. Mark which slot is safe versus gambit before accepting a Threat Levels queue. Repair scarred gambits or salvage them before they clog inventory ahead of Forge Center crafts. Sync with Squad Composer notes so late joiners do not duplicate the same archetype mid-session.

Salvage rhythm

After each session, salvage duplicate drops before crafting new loadout pieces—inventory clutter hides which weapons are actually deploy-safe. Review scar history on gambit slots weekly and re-craft at the Forge Center when negative mods block your main Weaver synergy path.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common RIFTSTORM questions.

What weapons are at risk in a RIFTSTORM loadout?

Weapons you bring into the mission can scar on failed extract. See Weapon Scarring and use safe versus gambit slots.

How do loadouts interact with Lythograms?

Lythograms modify power mid-mission; deployed weapons define baseline stats and elements—especially for Botsy turrets via Going Viral.

Where do I craft loadout weapons?

At the Forge Center with materials, credits, and mission blueprints.

What loadout should beginners use?

Start Rook with a flexible mid-range primary and safe mods. Read Getting Started first.

How do trios split loadouts?

Cover elements and roles per Trio Comps and plan in the Squad Composer.
